7th Grade Computer Literacy

By creating your Typing Test spreadsheet, you learned how teachers can use spreadsheets to keep track of students' grades in class.  All of your teachers keep an online gradebook that is nothing more than a giant spreadsheet.  As we enter the kids' grades into columns,  their average grade for the trimester is automatically calculated because someone pre-programmed the spreadsheet with a formula to do so.

Spreadsheets can be used for other important calculations as well.  Once you get a little older and start making money with a job, you can use a spreadsheet to keep track of your daily or weekly expenses so you know where your money is going.  You can set up a spreadsheet to automatically calculate how much money you're spending on gas for your car, food while you're out, trips to Dunkin Donuts, or whatever!

In the next activity, you'll go on a pretend shopping spree and setup a spreadsheet to calculate where you spend all of your money.
