Calculate the Amount Left Over

Next, you will use a formula to calculate the amount of money left over. Since you started shopping with $500, the amount left over will be 500 minus the grand total. Follow the steps below to use a cell reference to calculate this amount:
  1. Click once on the cell with the label GRAND TOTAL
  2. Press the DOWN ARROW 1 time
  3. Type Amount Left Over and then press the RIGHT ARROW KEY once to move over to the blank cell in Column D
  4. Type the following =500-      
  5. In the above step, be very sure that you begin the formula with an = (equal sign) and don’t forget the – (minus sign)
  6. Click once on the grand total amount in column D
  7. Press ENTER
  8. The amount of money left over is displayed in the active cell. This should be the result of $500 minus your grand total.
